If you are late you will not be allowed in , so it is very important to read about our process and procedures. This will ensure you have a fun day at the mine . |
| We also have digs scheduled for : March 13, 2010 PAINT ROCK VALLEY , ALABAMA April 03, Hogg Mine April 17 ROCK SWAP AND DIG at the hogg mine. I'll be announcing additional dig dates here very shortly , if you have a question about a date in the future , be sure to read this before you email me . Please keep checking to see if we are able to add new dates. The current most up - to - date info is found right here. Look for more dates to be announced ( this website is updated weekly ) . We are usually open the first Saturday of every month , but this is not absolutely guaranteed . We are not able to schedule digs very far in advance because I rely on volunteer help and because I also work in other states and other countries . People often email asking about dates in the future , and they are referred to this website to read the above . I update this website with the new dates as soon as I see that I can open the mine. It will not do any good to email me about any future date as the situation is explained above ! ***** EXCEPTION****** Name your own date ! Any date , whenever , but never on a Sunday . Despite me saying that if you don't see a date here that it will not do any good to ask , I still get many email's about this . For $100 additional over the $35 per person entry fee , you can name the date you want to visit . I or one of my associates can drive 90 miles to the mine , open it and sit with you all day , then drive nearly two hours back home . I have only had a few people take me up on this & it is not really something I am interested in doing to start with . So for those who insist on ignoring the information about dates , if your willing to pay extra , we can probably arrange it . I think this is more than fair considering it cost me $30 in gas to go to the mine and involves an 11 hour day . |

| This is the page for digging dates for the Hogg mine in Lagrange , Georgia . At the Hogg mine we offer rockhounds a chance to dig for gems such as star rose quartz , aquamarine & tourmaline crystals on a fee mining basis. This is the real deal and is not a "salted" or "bucket" mine. Perhaps you have been to one of those and were dissapointed ? Or perhaps you have been to the few real locations and were dissapointed to see that there was no shelter to dodge summer sun or rain , no wood burning stove for the cold winter digs, and worst of all , no port-a-potty for the ladies . And probably you were just turned loose with no on-site supervision or any kind of help or guide ?!!? We know that in either case you feel let down . | I am hoping the Weekend weather forecast for the Paint Rock Agate dig will improve. So far it's calling for a chance of showers. Like always , this dig will go on rain or shine . Life is short and I wont sleep it away ~ will you ? I will be digging agate this weekend and if it's just a chance of showers , I can deal with that (At least this time of year ticks are not a problem like they are in the summer time) . I suspect the above linked forcast will change daily. Please keep in mind that I dont often schedule agate digs , so it may be many months before I have another one. This dig will be held in a very beautiful place that has "Rock City" type limestone formations. I am hoping that if it does rain before we get there that there'll be some agate washed up ! |
